Delray Beach Snook Fishing Charters
Delray Beach has one of the best snook fisheries in the whole world. The inshore waters are kept warm by the nearby Gulfstream current year round, creating a prime natural habitat for snook that need warm water temps to survive. There are numerous hot spots to target snook during one of our Delray Beach fishing charters.
Delray Beach Swordfish Fishing Charters
Broadbill Swordfish can be caught during a full day trip on one of our Delray Beach deep sea fishing charters. We target swordfish 20 miles offshore, where they feed along the bottom in 2,000 feet of water. Fishing at such great depths requires us to use electric reels in order to haul the heavy weights against the current. If stand-up fishing is your thing, then swordfishing off Delray Beach is not for you. Instead, these fish are landed by leaving the rod in the rod holder and pressing a button. The swordfish off our coast average 80 to 150 lbs, but there are plenty of 300lb + fish waiting to inhale one of our squid baits.
Delray Beach Sailfish Fishing Charters
Sailfish are probably the most popular game fish for customers on one of our Delray Beach fishing charters. Sailfish are targeted mainly by using live baits, but we catch them while trolling on occasion as well. We catch sailfish in Delray Beach year round, but during the cooler months of Winter they are most prevalent. The best conditions for sailfishing are right after a cold front when North winds push through South Florida. Sailfish are a catch and release only species, but our customers are welcome to take photos before release.
Delray Beach Goliath Grouper Fishing Charters
Goliath grouper are one of the largest fish in the ocean, and they are abundant near the local reefs of Delray Beach. We often get requests to target these overgrown groupers, which can reach sizes up to 600 lbs! These monster fish require great strength from the angler on the reel, but catching one will give a sense of accomplishment that lasts a lifetime. Goliath grouper are catch and release only during our Delray Beach fishing charters.
Delray Beach Puffer Fishing Charters
We are often surprised by exotic catches during our Delray Beach fishing charters, such as this rare oceanic puffer (or rabbit fish). This guy ate a trolled ballyhoo about a mile offshore.
Delray Beach Wahoo Fishing Charters
Wahoo are one of the most challenging fish to catch during one of our Delray Beach fishing charters. These gamefish are one of the fastest species of fish in the ocean, able to reach speeds up to 60 mph. We target wahoo by trolling at high speeds from 6 to 20 mph using dead bait and artificial lures, but they are also caught incidentally while fishing with live bait as well. High speed trolling for wahoo in Delray Beach has become one of the most popular methods with local anglers, and this type of charter is available upon request.
Delray Beach King Mackerel Fishing Charters
Monster king mackerel, such as this 50 pounder, can be targeted less than a mile offshore during one of our Delray Beach fishing charters. Big king mackerel respond well to live baits intended for sailfish, so they make a welcomed by-catch for sailfish anglers looking to take home dinner.
Delray Beach Mutton Snapper Fishing Charters
Giant mutton snapper can be targeted during the full moon and new moon periods during our Delray Beach fishing charters. This is when they congregate along deep reef ledges and fall victim to live bait such as pilchards, goggle eyes, and ballyhoo. Mutton snapper trips require special rigging and equipment, so make sure to tell us ahead of time if you would like to target them.
Delray Beach Grouper Fishing Charters
Black grouper and gag grouper are available to catch off our coastline during the Winter and Spring months, when they congregate on local reefs and wrecks. During this time, we target them by using live bait or trolling deep with lures and natural baits. Grouper regulations and recreational limits and seasons is constantly changing, so ask ahead of time about grouper fishing on one of our Delray Beach fishing charters.
Delray Beach Dolphin Fishing Charters
Mahi Mahi are a staple catch during our Delray Beach fishing charters. They are available to catch year round, and we usually find them under flocks of birds or around floating debris. Mahi Mahi will fall victim to live baits, but trolling for them is definitely the most effective way to catch them.
Delray Beach Inshore Fishing Charters
Our smaller charter boat is a 20′ Angler center console, perfect for small groups looking for some intense light tackle fishing on the intracoastal waterway and near-coastal waters. We can bring groups of four on this boat for Delray Beach inshore fishing charters. Captain Chris Agardy is known as one of the best inshore fishing guides in South Florida.
Delray Beach Yellowtail Snapper Fishing Charters
Yellowtail snapper are one of the more delicious-tasting species that we encounter during our Delray Beach fishing charters. These tasty snappers are caught by fishing live baits near the bottom, usually less than a mile from the shoreline. These are considered a special treat during our deep sea fishing trips.
Delray Beach Bonito Fishing Charters
Bonito are the most abundant species encountered during our Delray Beach fishing charters. They have no food value, but they are an incredible game fish that can pull as hard as any other fish in the ocean. These are the fish that keep our customers busy while they are targeting other, more desirable species.
Delray Beach Tuna Fishing Charters
Big blackfin tuna can be encountered from April through July during our Delray Beach fishing charters. This is the time of year when we can expect to catch tuna up to 40 lbs. During the rest of the year smaller tuna are available during trolling trips.
Delray Beach Snook Fishing Charters
Monster snook are available year round, but during the Summer months they are pretty much a guaranteed catch as they spawn in great numbers along the beaches and inlets. We use light tackle with live bait to tackle these linesiders, and if they are in season, they make excellent table fare! Ask us about targeting snook during one of our Delray Beach fishing charters.

Wahoo are also excellent table fare, especially for sushi lovers. If you are looking to hook into one of the most challenging gamefish in the ocean, then try one of our wahoo fishing trips with Capt. Chris Agardy.

Cuba Fishing Charters With Captain Chris AgardyCuba Fishing Charters For Dolphin

Dolphin fish or mahi mahi are one of the most sought after gamefish around Cuba. These acrobatic fish are excellent to eat and they give a great battle on light tackle. Dolphin can reach weights up to 60 lbs, and catching a trophy is always a possibility during one of our Cuba deep sea fishing trips. Dolphin are typically found offshore around floating debris or sargassum weed. They readily strike lures as well as natural and live bait. Captain Chris Agardy is willing to put in the effort to search offshore for these exciting gamefish. Book one of our offshore charters today to catch dolphin in Cuba.

Cuba Fishing Charters With Captain Chris AgardyCuba Fishing Charters For Tuna

Yellowfin and Blackfin tuna are prevalent in the offshore waters around Cuba, following schools of baitfish as a source of food. The best way to find tuna is to look for diving frigate birds or terns. When massive flocks of birds are found feeding on the ocean’s surface, it is a good bet that there are tuna feeding below. Tuna can be targeted by trolling small feathers way behind the boat. The best colors for tuna fishing lures are blue /  white, purple /  black, and red/white.

Cuba Fishing Charters For Marlin

Marlin reign supreme in the offshore waters of Cuba. These apex gamefish follow schools of tuna around the blue water that surrounds the island, and they are one of the most challenging and prized gamefish to catch. Marlin are targeted in Cuban waters by using artificial lures and natural baits such as mullet, ballyhoo, and mackerel. Live tuna also work well, but they attract sharks which makes trolling the preferred choice during deep sea charters in Cuba.

Cuba Fishing Charters For Sailfish

Sailfish frequently migrate through Cuban waters before heading up to Key West and the East coast of the US. They congregate in large schools during the late Winter and Spring months, and they can be targeted by anglers trolling with natural baits such as ballyhoo or mullet. Sailfish rarely exceed 100 lbs, but they put on an acrobatic show for any angler that hooks into them. This makes them one of the most sought after gamefish in Cuba. Sailfish are one of the most exciting species of fish to catch in these waters.

Cuba Fishing Charters With Captain Chris AgardyCuba Fishing Charters For Snapper

The coral reefs that surround Cuba are home to dozens of different kinds of snappers. Snapper are known for their excellent table fare, and they can be very fun to catch on light tackle. Captain Chris’s favorite way to catch snapper is to use light spinning rods and live baits. These live baits can be netted along the beaches before heading out for a reef fishing charter. Common snapper species in Cuba include mutton, mangrove, yellowtail, and vermillion.

Cuba Fishing Charters For Grouper

Grouper are one of the most challenging reef fish to catch in Cuba waters, but they make for excellent table fare so they are worth the effort. The greatest challenge in catching grouper in Cuba is trying to keep them from retreating to their hole in the reef after being hooked. They are notorious for eating a bait and then immediately snagging the line on the reef before the angler has a chance to reel. For this reason, we like using heavy tackle for grouper during our Cuba fishing charters. Tackle up to 100 lb test is sometimes necessary to catch black grouper that exceed 50 lbs!

Cuba Fishing Charters For Bonefish

Bonefishing in Cuba is world class, and people travel from all over the world to experience this exciting inshore fishery. During guided inshore trips for bonefish, customers can expect to stalk these elusive fish on flats that are as shallow as 6 inches deep. Bonefish move into these shallow areas to feed on shrimp and crabs, and it is the ultimate inshore angling thrill to hook up to one while sight fishing. The fact that the fishery is all sight fishing makes it more like hunting and adds to the excitement. Fly fishing for bonefish in Cuba is probably the most popular method among savvy anglers, but cut bait fishing with crabs or conch is equally effective.

Cuba Fishing Charters For Permit

Permit hang out in the same shallow areas as bonefish, scrounging for crabs and shrimp along flats that are flooded by the incoming tide. These giant pompano-looking fish are extremely leader shy, making them very challenging to hook under any circumstance. Captain Chris likes to target permit in Cuba using light fluorocarbon leaders and crabs for bait. For fly fishermen , imitation crab patterns work best.

Cuba Fishing Charters With Captain Chris AgardyCuba Fishing Charters For Snook

Unbeknownst to many anglers, Cuba has some of the best snook fishing in the world. Every Summer, massive schools of snook congregate on the local reefs and inlets that line the coast of Cuba. These are breeding size fish that average 10-20 lbs. They make excellent able fare and the snook fishing in Cuba is still being discovered so there are countless options around the island for anglers.

Cuba Fishing Charters For Tarpon

Tarpon can be found along offshore reefs, close to the beach, or inshore where lagoons and bays are fed by the ocean current. These silver kings offer the most exciting battle of any of the inshore fish, mostly due to their propensity to jump and reach over 100 lbs. If you are looking to hook into a monster tarpon, then give Captain Chris a call today.

Top Deep Sea Fishing Destinations: Boca Raton, FL With Capt. Chris Agardy
Captain Chris Agardy

Like all top deep sea fishing destinations, Boca Raton is home to many private charter boats as well as many larger drift boats. While drift boats like the Lady K or the Sea Mist III may offer the cheapest rates per person, but they also take out the largest number of people per trip. You may find yourself not only in competition with the fish in the ocean, but also with the guy next to you on the boat. If you’re looking for a genuine deep sea fishing experience, private charter boats are the way to go. When you book a trip with the Happy Fish, you increase your chances of reeling in a fish. The Happy Fish takes up to 4 people per trip, with available trips of 4 hours for a half day or 8 hours for a full day. The Happy Fish will pick you and your party up at the boat ramp, and within 10 minutes you can be out on the open water on a deep sea fishing charter. Another advantage a private charter boat such as the Happy Fish has over the drift boats is its flexibility, and can accommodate trip length and times according to the customer’s needs.

Top Deep Sea Fishing Destinations: Boca Raton, FL With Capt. Chris Agardy
20′ Angler Center Console Available For Light Tackle Deep Sea Charters in Boca Raton, FL.

Known for its soft sandy beaches, luscious palm trees, and luxury living, Boca Raton has always been known as a popular travel destination… but only the best fishermen know it is also one of the top deep sea fishing destinations in the world. Located in Palm Beach County which has 47 miles of shore available to the surf and beach angler, Boca Raton is also the closest city to the Gulf Stream for the offshore angler. The Gulf Stream keeps a nonstop Northerly flow of warm 80 degree waters that funnels pelagic species through like a river within a mile of Boca Raton’s shoreline. This means that within 5 minutes you can be in 800ft of water and deep sea fishing, which gives Boca Raton an uncontested advantage over all other cities along the Atlantic coast and over all other top deep sea fishing destinations. Also, unlike the winter constrained northern states, fishing in Boca Raton is available year round. In fact, the winter months provide the best times for catching tuna, blackfin and yellowfin, sailfish, cobia and king mackerel. Other popular fish that can be found throughout the year are wahoo, swordfish, sharks, snapper, grouper, and more!

Another advantage Boca Raton has over other top deep sea fishing destinations is its natural reefs coupled with the artificial reefs that give anglers and divers access to a large variety of marine life. Some of these artificial reefs are old ships that have run aground. Just 175 yards offshore lay the Lofthus, a wind driven merchant ship that was grounded and then intentionally sunk above existing wreckage from the Oh Kim Soon. With these wrecks and more all along the coast, Florida has also become known as the Shipwreck Capital of the World. This makes it an even more popular destination for

For these reasons, Boca Raton is the best kept secret of the top deep sea fishing destinations.

Starting in November, boats using kites with live bait can expect to hook double digit numbers of sailfish during cold snaps. Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsCobia Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Cobia are most abundant during the Winter and Spring months, when they are migrating through the Boca Raton area. Early in the season, the most cobia are found traveling with Stingrays along the beach, feasting on crabs and small fish kicked up by the ray. The best way to target the cobia along the beaches is by sight fishing from a boat with a bridge or a tower. A higher vantage point will help to see the cobia swimming along the sandy bottom. Once a school of cobia has been found, it is common to hook up to multiple fish at the same time. It is very important to be prepared with multiple spinning rods to pitch baits to these cobias before they spook to deeper water.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsKingfish Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Kingfish are one of the most common species encountered in the offshore waters of Boca Raton. Customers on deep sea fishing charters can expect to catch kingfish year round within a mile from the beach. During the Spring, the biggest kingfish of the year can be caught with live bait. Every trip during April and May could result in a kingfish exceeding 50 lbs. Trolling with baits deep in the water column will also account for plenty of bites from school-sized kingfish in the 5 to 15 lb range. Kingfish are good table fare, especially when smoked on a BBQ grill.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsWahoo Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Wahoo is one of the most elusive offshore species in this part of the state, but they can be targeted as close as a mile offshore the beach. In fact, some of the biggest wahoo of the year follow schools of bonito into waters as shallow as 70ft during late Summer and Fall months. Wahoo average 15-30 lbs off Boca Raton, but occasionally anglers will hook into wahoo in the 40-70 lb class. The biggest wahoo will wreak havoc on light tackle, and the best chance to land these fish is by using 50 lb class reels loaded with at least 500 yards of line.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsTuna Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Fish Envy’s Boat Is Option For Private Charters In Boca Raton, FL

“I get a lot of phone calls for people looking to split private charters with other anglers on my boat. While I don’t offer split charters, the Fish Envy Drift Fishing Boat is the perfect option for them. Here is some more info about these shared fishing trips…”

-Capt. Chris Agardy

The Fish Envy fishing boat is an offshore drift fishing operation that is located approximately 20 minutes north of Boca Raton. This is the best option for anglers looking for a more affordable way to experience offshore fishing than booking one of our private charters . The reason the prices for a fishing trip on the Fish Envy are so low is because you share the boat with other groups of anglers.  These drift fishing trips are primarily targeting mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, cobia, kingfish, black grouper, gag grouper, dolphin, blackfin tuna, wahoo, sailfish, red porgy, vermillion snapper, and more. This type of fishing involves using three hook rigs and chicken rigs with natural bait such as dead sardines and cut squid. The reefs that are fished by the Fish Envy fishing boat along this area of coastline 12 miles North of Boca Raton. The drift fishing trips take place along these reefs that lie from 1 to 2 miles from shore. You can visit the Fish Envy Fishing website for more information here.

Catching Kingfish Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Boat

Drift fishing with triple hooked sardines is the best way to target king mackerel (kingfish) in depths ranging from 30-250 ft. Kingfish tend to gather in schools during certain times of year, with the biggest kingfish occurring during the Spring. Monofilament leaders get the most bites from kings, but wire leader can help prevent cutoffs during a hot bite.

Catching Cobia Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Boat

Cobia fishing begins in the Winter and lasts peaks around Spring time before slowing down in the Summer. Cobia are encountered while bottom fishing with sardines or squid in depths ranging from 30ft to 300ft. The best cobia fishing occurs during the Spring run of bull sharks. The cobia tag along with the bull sharks and can be chummed up to the boat for easy pickings. Cobia meat is favored over most other fish, making it one of the top desired species during drift fishing trips aboard the Fish Envy.

Catching Mutton Snapper Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Boat

Mutton Snapper fishing is best during the stronger tides of the full and new moons. The best way to catch mutton snapper while drifting is to fish with long monofilament leaders left to sit on the bottom with chunks of baitfish on a circle hook. A mutton snapper bite can be very subtle, so it is important to pay attention to the rod tip when soaking baits on the bottom for these finicky feeders. Depths of 70 to 275ft seem to work well for mutton snapper fishing.

Catching Grouper Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Boat

Grouper fishing is best from January through April, when large spawning schools of gag grouper and black grouper take residence at local reefs. They can be caught by using dead sardines, live blue runners, or ballyhoo while fishing along reef ledges in 50ft to 250ft. Grouper season closes at different times as regulations change from year to year, so make sure to keep up to date on regulations before planning a grouper fishing trip.

Deep Sea Trolling Charters

Boca Raton Fishing Report: Mahi Mahi And Bonito Last Week During Charters
Our best day of fishing last week was during a morning charter on the big boat. We caught 14 mahi mahi only 3 miles from the dock!

Captain Chris’ most popular trip is a half day of deep sea trolling in the offshore waters from Boca Raton to Boynton Beach. During his trolling trips, he keeps the boat constantly moving with lines in the water and uses natural bait with lures to entice strikes from hungry wahoo, dolphin, kingfish, sailfish, tuna, and more. Trolling is the most effective way to catch the greatest quantity of fish during half day and full day offshore deep sea charters. During a typical half day trip, the boat covers over 20 miles looking for schooling fish. This gives a distinct advantage over drift fishing boats that only cover a couple miles during a trip. Trolling is the best method for catching wahoo, schoolie kingfish, and schoolie dolphin. It is also the best way to target tasty football-sized blackfin tuna.

Deep Sea Live Bait Fishing Charters

Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy
Here is Captain Chris with his biggest wahoo of the 2015 season, a 61 lb beast that ate a live bait fished under a kite.

Live bait fishing is another option for anglers fishing with Captain Chris. Live bait fishing involves drifting slowly with live baitfish hooked to the lines. This type of fishing is different from trolling because it attracts bigger fish as opposed to catching a greater quantity of smaller fish. Live bait fishing is the best way to target sailfish, big kingfish, big wahoo, big tuna, cobia, and big dolphin (mahi mahi). Live bait fishing requires lots of patience while waiting for a fish to bite, but the reward can be worth the wait with monster fish being caught. Live Bait costs an extra $80 to purchase during our deep sea fishing charters, but the extra cost can be worth it for anglers looking for a trophy catch.

Monster Shark And Goliath Grouper Fishing

Boca Raton Fishing Report: Snook Bite For Inshore Charters, Goliath Grouper, Wahoo, And Bonito OffshoreFor those anglers looking to catch monster fish during their Boca Raton deep sea fishing charter, we offer specialized trips to local shipwrecks in which we target monster bull sharks, lemon sharks, hammerhead sharks, and goliath grouper. All of these species average 150-600lbs, and are capable of putting even the most able-bodied anglers to the test. This type of deep sea fishing is catch and release only, but there will be plenty of photo opportunities available if you land one of these sea monsters. This type of fishing involves using heavy conventional tackle to wrestle these huge sharks and fish up to the surface. This is the ultimate challenge for Deep Sea Fishing in Boca Raton.

Bottom Fishing For Snapper

(07/14/14) Boca Raton Fishing Report: Kingfish And Snapper Fishing Heats Up With The WeatherWe also offer specialized Boca Raton deep sea fishing charters for yellowtail, mangrove, and mutton snapper. The most productive snapper fishing occurs at night, but we offer daytime trips for snapper as well. Snapper fishing in Boca Raton involves anchoring the boat near a reef and chumming up the snapper to the boat using chunks of fish. Snapper are very small compared to the fish that are caught while trolling or live bait fishing, but they are excellent eating quality. The average mutton snapper is around 5 lbs and mangrove and yellowtail snappers are 1-2 lbs. When the snapper are biting, we can catch up to 20 keeper snapper during a 4 hour had day deep sea fishing charter in Boca Raton.

Deep Dropping For Swordfish With Electric Reels

Boca Raton Swordfishing BoatWe have excellent daytime swordfishing that occurs 15 miles off the coastline of Boca Raton. We offer Deep Sea Swordfish Charters with electric reels for fishing heavy weights at depths up to 2,000 ft. Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy

Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy
Here is Captain Chris with his biggest wahoo of the 2015 season, a 61 lb monster that ate a live bait fished under a kite.

Captain Chris Agardy is the king of wahoo fishing in South Florida. During his offshore charters, Chris’ primary target is wahoo. The key to his wahoo fishing charter success is the location of his charter business. Captain Chris fishes the dropoff only 2 miles from shore out of Boca Raton and Boynton Inlets. This is the only area in the entire US where the wahoo congregate in greatest numbers so close to shore. Captain Chris is able to successfully target these wahoo on a year-round basis in this area, consistently putting his customers on trophy “zebra fish”. His tactics include trolling with natural baits and kite fishing with live baits along the dropoff only a couple miles from shore. While fishing for wahoo during his offshore charters, Chris’ customers can expect to land quality by-catch such as sailfish, mahi mahi, tuna, kingfish, cobia, barracuda, amberjack, sharks, and more. This means that even when Chris doesn’t find a wahoo, his customers can expect to have plenty of action with other fish. False Albacore Fly Fishing Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy

False Albacore Fly Fishing Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy Boca Raton Bonito Fishing ChartersWe offer fly fishing charters for false albacore or bonito during the Summer months when baitfish such as pilchards, sardines, and threadfin herring migrate along our beaches. Captain Chris begins every false albacore charter by throwing the castnet to secure hundreds of live baits to be used for chumming further offshore. Once the baitwell is full of live baits, we head about half a mile offshore to where the schools of false albacore roam. We set up a drift in an area that looks promising and then start throwing out handfuls of live baits around the boat. When our live bait hits the water they begin circling the boat, attracting predators to within distance of casting range. False Albacore Fly Fishing ChartersOnce the bonito or false albacore start feeding on the live bait and busting the surface around the boat, the angler starts making casts with his/her fly rod in the direction of the fish. If the albies are fired up, they will readily take a streamer fly that is steadily retrieved back to the boat. Sometimes we use topwater flies like poppers when targeting these false albacore. Topwater flies make for very exciting action. When live chumming for false albacore, it is possible to hook up with dozens of them during a 4 hour trip. Most of these fish average from 5 to 10 lbs, but 15 to 20 lb fish are not uncommon during Summer months. The peak of the false albacore fishing season generally occurs between May and September. We might encounter other species of fish during our false albacore fishing charters. These species include kingfish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, and even cobia. If you would like to book one of our Boca Raton false albacore fishing charters with a fly rod or light spinning tackle, please contact local inshore guide Capt. Chris Agardy. Chris will put you on the fish!

High Speed Wahoo Trolling Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy

High Speed Wahoo Trolling Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy

High Speed trolling for wahoo is one of the most exciting offshore fisheries along our Southeast Florida coastline. Our fertile offshore reef system is teeming with baitfish that attract hungry wahoo to feed within 2 miles of the beach. We target these wahoo by trolling with atificial lures and natural baits at speeds of 8 to 20 mph. When a wahoo eats one of our trolling baits, it usually makes a smoking fast run in the opposite direction for up to 200 yards. The bigger the wahoo, the bigger the initial run it makes. We use wire leader when we target wahoo because they have scissor-like jaws with hundreds of razor sharp teeth that can cut through regular monofilament fishing line like butter. Wahoo fishing charters in Boca Raton are not for everyone, mostly due to the fact that we might have to wait for hours in between bites. Even when the high speed trolling for wahoo is slow, we might catch other species like mahi mahi, sailfish, and tuna in the same areas where the ‘hoos are feeding.

South Florida Wahoo Charters
40 Lb wahoo caught while high speed trolling on New Years Eve 2014.

A typical 4 hour high speed trolling charter for wahoo includes three and a half hours of fishing and one half hour total of run time. The wahoo fishing grounds are very close to Boca Raton Inlet  and Boynton Inlet, so we start trolling for them within 15 minutes of leaving the dock. When we are trolling for wahoo, we use 50-80lb class conventional rods and reels with bent butts that are locked into the rod holders. These bent butts keep the rods at an angle closer to the water to keep trolling leads tracking under the water. When a wahoo bites, the angler reels in the fish by constantly cranking on the reel handle while the rod is in the holder. We keep the boat moving forward to keep a steady angle of the line to the hooked wahoo. When we get the trolling lead up to the boat, the first mate hand lines the rest of the leader until the wahoo is in gaff range. There is no better feeling than when the wahoo is gaffed and comes over the rail. This excitement is why we love running High Speed wahoo fishing charters in Boca Raton!
